My laptop is overheating, what can be done?

Overheating in a laptop is a serious problem and should not be taken lightly. In fact, the cooling system of the laptop should be judged well before buying. Display of a black screen, system crashes and sudden restarts are some of the symptoms of this problem. It is thus advisable to know the temperature of the main hardware components of the system like the processor, hard drive and graphics card. For this, there is software by virtue of which the temperature of these components can be controlled. Installation of adhesive rubber feet and notebook cooler can also help. Along with that, cleaning the laptop and optimizing the ventilation of the laptop can help to get rid of the overheating problem.
My laptop is overheating, what can be done?
The mobility of laptops is what made them popular, whether for office use or for gaming purposes. However, they also have their weak point - they tend to overheat rapidly! The issues
Firstly, a laptop obviously has a less efficient cooling system than a desktop PC, due to its size. This also accounts for the noise.
Although the components for a laptop have a much lower consumption than the components for a desktop PC, this does not in any way dissipate the heat generated while they are in use. The cooling system must always be taken into consideration before buying a laptop, especially if it boasts high end performances. What symptoms? How to know the temperature of my components?First, here are the three main components for which we must check the temperature:
  • The processor
  • The graphic cards
  • The hard disk
  • There is a free software that lets you control these temperatures. It is simple, free, effective and compatible with both 32 and 64 bit architecture.
  • What are the main symptoms?
    - Black screen of the machine, obliged to restart frequently
    - Crash of the machine while loading a picture, Office or other
    - The laptop restarts, especially when it is requested to do so.
    - The laptop restarts, when the use of the processor is too high (opening multiple programs).
Hardware Tips
These tips are by no means foolproof.
Adhesive rubber feet
Glue two to four feet depending on the cooling system of your PC. Two in the back may be enough, if the cooling vents are not on the front. Choose a height of 1.5 cm, a little more if you can. The result: better heat dissipation between your PC and the medium on which it is placed.
Notebook cooler
Here, the price is higher but the results are far more interesting.
Buying a notebook cooler must be done intelligently, in fact, it is best if the fans are placed at the level of the PC's cooling vents.
Another point not to be overlooked is the noise! This will obviously depend on whether the noise bothers you or not! Do not hesitate to seek advice on the forum.
Note that:
Avoid gadgets such as mini cooler Although they are cheap, their effectiveness is questionable. If your PC lacks USB ports, also try to buy a notebook cooler with a built-in USB. hub. Slight improvement of ventilation during heavy calculations (free)This method is not very effective, but it's better than nothing.
In fact, the goal is to remove components that are not vital to the system
  • The cards
  • Open the CD/DVD Drive tray.
Clean up your laptop
If your PC gets too hot and turns off during games and large applications, it's time to clean it up.
  • Dust is the worst enemy of your laptop.
  • Indeed, it will stay inside the cooling system, reducing the heat dissipation.
  • Look where the dust will be housed in a laptop:
  • Changing thermal paste for the processor:
